When you decide to buy a pitbull from a breeder, please make sure you have checked the reputation of the breeder.  A breeder who is more interested in your money than the happiness and well-being of the dog is not worth your time.  The breeders should care about whether or not you are right for the dog and the dog is right for you.  Some breeders even accept their return if you aren’t happy with your dog.

The dog should be of good temper, healthy, and happy.  Some things to check for besides the reputation of the breeder are as follows:  their willingness to help support rescue centers, how often the females are bred, how the dog is housed, puppy immunizations, and willingness to help with future questions and guidance. 

Purchasing a dog from a breeder has an advantage over purchasing from a pet shop because there’s less likelihood of disease and behavioral problems.  Inadequate socialization during the early stages of the dog’s life, lack of human contact, and isolation are all concerns when purchasing a dog from a pet shop.  There is also a good chance  when purchasing from a breeder that you’ll get to meet a dog’s parents or maybe brothers and sisters. 

It helps to have references from others who have bought from this breeder you are interested in.  Reputable breeders will not mind your checking their background.   If they are honest and upfront, they will understand that a customer needs reassurance.  There is a breeder directory you can check to give you a start on names of reputable breeders.  You can also check with the local better business bureau for the area of the breeder’s location.

American Blue Pitbull Terrier offers pit bulls in indigo, dusty gray, and brindled colors.  (Brindled: having streaks or dark flecks on a gray or tawny background, almost like a calico cat but not in patches.)  Their dogs come from pedigree backgrounds and are born and bred in Texas.  Dogs from this breeder cost $1000 to $1500 plus shipping costs.

You can find pitbulls for $200 in Louisiana that are 2 ½ years old, UKC registered with papers.  You can also find new puppies for $1800 with papers.

The price of dogs varies as much as the location of the breeders, whether or not they are registered, whether or not you buy from a breeder or from a pet adoption agency or from an individual. 

Pets4You has ads for kennels in several states, including California where a line called COMPAK pits have been bred that weigh as little as 25 lbs.  You can purchase these from $800 up to $2500.  Breedersclub.net offers dogs for sell in several states.  You can check into Pitbullsrevealed.com, realpitbull.com, factsaboutpitbulls.com, and pitbulllovers.com for helpful guidance and information.
