Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) is currently the only pet insurance provider which has plans licensed in all fifty states; and gives you the choice of taking your pet to any licensed veterinarian that you prefer. Their basic Superior Plan will cover the majority of your new German Shepherd's healthcare needs, ranging from office visits, prescription medications, diagnostic tests, x-rays and lab fees. Their Superior Plan Plus Routine Coverage will also cover your pet's annual exam, vaccinations, heartworm protection, and prescription flea control. PetsHealth Care Plan, by the Hartford Group, (800-807-6724), offers a number of insurance plans. Covering these, plus basic wellness care of an annual phyiscal exam and vaccinations, the Value Pet Insurance Plan starts at $30.50. The Choice Plan, starting at $54.10, also covers heartworm and flea preventive medication, dental cleansing, and additional vaccinations. The Best Pet Plan, starting at $76.79, also includes spaying and/or neutering, and coverage of some chronic and long-term conditions. All of these plans include a Lost Pet Recovery tag.

Comprehensive Care for your new pet includes vaccinations against DHL-P, Parvovirus, Rabies, Bordetella, Lyme Disease, and Corona Virus; and also includes prescription flea control, heartworm preventative test and medication, routine and comprehensive health screenings, spaying or neutering, behavioral training, and microchip identification. PetFirst offers three comprehensive care policies, which range from $24.95 to $49.95. They also offer three Core Coverage policies, for accident and illness protection, ranging from $16.95 to $41.95.
The ASPCA (866-861-9092) also offers five pet health insurance plans. The Safety Plan, which is the most basic, begins at a monthly premium of $8.99; it covers general accidents and insect bites. The Primary Plan, at $16.61, illness treatment, medical and dental services. The Advantage Plan, at $30.50, includes all of the above, plus general wellness care-- annual physical exams and basic vaccinations. The Premiere Plan, $54.10, includes all of the previous coverage, plus additional vaccinations, flea and heartworm medication, and an annual dental cleaning. The Sterling Plan, at $76.69, covers all of these medical concerns plus continuous coverage for longterm and chronic conditions which have developed during the previous plan year.
