The Positive Traits of Pekingese
Author:
C. Covington
Pekingese dogs, aka ‘toy’ dogs, are very cute little dogs that originated from China. Their weight range is around 14 pounds with a long thick coat of hair. They received their name ‘Pekingese’ from Peking, the city in China now called ‘Beijing.’
There are many positive traits of Pekingese. Pekingese seem to get along well with cats. If you own a cat they will more than likely get along very well and eventually become the best of friends. That’s right, no getting on to the cat and dog for fighting.
Pekingese make great house pets but you should know they like to think they’re the boss a majority of the time. For instance they find a spot they love but it’s a spot you’d rather them not be. You will more than likely end up letting them keep that spot because you love them so much. While this is not horribly wrong, it will not always work out so nice in other situations.
Most animals get exercise whether they need it or not. Pekingese need the normal daily exercise. You can easily train them to the leash and then take them for walks every day. Pekingese are not likely to stay in the boundaries that you wish for them to. The fact that they do not need as much exercise will help with the worry of having a big yard. Taking them for walks everyday will give you exercise as well.
Most indoor dogs do not like to stay outside very much when it is cold. They get used to being in your house with the heat and warmth. Pekingese are very tolerant of the cold. When you think they should be inside, they will probably want to stay outside. They are not tolerant to heat, so be sure they never get over-heated.
Pekingese do not like to be away from the family. You will want to be sure the dog’s bed is somewhere that it can easily access the family. Their bed needs to be in a cool spot as well as they do not tolerate the heat.
Pekingese are perfect dogs for people with small homes or who live in an apartment. These dogs do not need much room to run around so you do not have to worry about having a big yard.
Pekingese can live up to fifteen years if they stay fit and healthy. While they can be demanding dogs, you will soon find out after getting one that they are worth it all. They are very loyal even with their jealous tendencies at times. You will learn to love and admire them as the time passes that you spend together.
