What a Labrador should be eating diet wise

Author:
C. Covington

Labradors should eat a low calorie diet of dry or meat based dog food and no people food because dogs and humans have different nutritional needs and what a dog needs from their food they need to get it from theirs they won’t get it from our food. It’s important to start a dog off on dog food as a puppy so they’re accustomed to eating a certain way and not tempted to snack on people food. Human food has a lot of ingredients that isn’t healthy for dogs and people like to toss the occasional pizza crust or leftovers to the dog when flour based products is harmful to a dog’s gastrointestinal tract because it can constipate a dog when they’re eating bread-based products.

It’s better for the dog to feed them their own food so they can get the right nutrients needed for their health and development. Too many dogs are looking like their owners which is not good and this is where owners need to re-examine what they’re giving to their pets because what is good for us is not good for a dog. Labradors like to snack a lot and to deter them from overeating it’s ideal to feed them in the morning with a light snack of a couple cookie sized treats and then again in the evening. Portion control is vital don’t fill up an entire dish with food because dogs will less likely finish a full meal and food will be wasted. So it’s ideal to serve only a portion appropriate to the dog’s size and weight and nothing more. Lower calorie food also helps Labs burn off their food better since they tend to gain a lot of weight due to negligence on the owners part.

Typical dog owners don’t think there’s no harm in giving the dog a piece of their meal when in fact it is because dogs will get deprogrammed from wanting to eat their own food to eat what a human being eats. It’s important to keep a Labrador eating dog food because some human food can cause diarrhea and constipation since dogs and humans digest and process their food differently. A dog has specific needs from the time they’re puppies to when they reach 5-7 years old that’s their key nutritional years and when you have careless owners who give the dog table scraps they don’t realize that dogs over time will slowly deprogram them into eating human food instead of their own food. The portion sizes are out of control not only for dogs which is a reflection of how their owners live, but it also says a lot about the dietary needs of a dog. Labradors should only have light snacks of a dog treat which are roughly 2 Oreo cookie size portions and nothing more that should hold them down until you give them a meal later on in the day. Dogs that are overfed are likely to become overweight because they’re free to eat more than they should in one sitting.

History of the Akita
The Akita breed of dog originated in ancient Japan as a type of a Spitz, bred out of a need for great hunting dogs.  They soon became an icon in the Japanese culture, and are one of a handful of dog breeds that are national monuments in Japan.  The Japanese believe that the Akita is a symbol for health, prosperity and longevity.  Well wishers offer statues of the Akita to families welcoming a new child, or to those that have fallen ill. For some time in ancient Japan, ownership of the Akita was extremely restricted.  Because the breed was so highly regarded in society as a status symbol, only royalty and hierarchy were allowed to own one.  The Akita was fed and cared for as a part of a large ceremony that worshiped the dog.  Similar to jewelry, they wore decorative collars and leashes that indicated the status of their owner. The first Akita introduced into the United States is said to have been brought by Helen Keller in 1937.  ...
