Where Can You Purchase Inexpensive Chihuahuas?
Author:
C. Covington
Buying a purebred Chihuahua can be an investment not unlike that of having a baby. While a Chihuahua puppy is not going to need diapers and a crib it is going to need a place to sleep, blankets, toys, sweaters (if you live in a cold climate it is best to “dress” your Chihuahua, as they are usually not fans of cold weather) and inoculations; this is added on to the cost of purchasing them from a breeder in the first place, an expensive that can run to the tune of five hundred dollars or more.
That is a great deal of money to pay for such a small animal, and the expense will only continue to grow as the expenses of food, training, flea and worm care and regular medical check-ups begin to accumulate. While well worth it, this is not always an expense that pet owners are in a position to afford. What can they do about it?
The first thing that should be considered is how determined they are to have a purebred animal and what its purpose is going to be. If they are looking to purchase a show dog they are going to have to look to a breeder that specializes in show dogs and accept the out of pocket expense. The same is true if they are looking for “stock” to start their own breeding program, as both undertakings are going to require that the animals have a pedigree that shows the faultlessness of their lineage.
If they are looking for a pet but would still like a purebred they may be able to look to private owners who do not run a breeding program but who have puppies they are willing to sell. Since this is not their livelihood they *may* be willing to part with the pups at a price slightly below market value. These animals may or may not come with pedigrees. If an animal does not have a pedigree there is always the chance that somewhere in its background there has been a blending of the breeds, regardless of what the owner may claim. This should be considered before the purchase of one of these dogs; while they will make a great companion they will not be able to be either shown or bred.
Anyone looking for a pet who does not particularly care if it is a purebred as long as it possesses most of the physical traits of the breed will be able to find a Chihuahua mix through a private owner or an animal shelter. Dogs can be purchased from the animal shelter for fifty dollars or less and will often have already had their basic vaccinations. These animals may possess fewer of the negative traits of their breed, having had them bred out of them.
While there is no surefire way to obtain a purebred Chihuahua at a “bargain” price there are several methods by which a potential owner can avoid the pitfalls of the breeder’s profit margin. It merely takes time and effort blended with a healthy dose of luck.

| Positive traits of the Pitbull |
| Some of the Pitbulls negative traits are also viewed as positive. If you buy your Pitbull for a guard dog, you don’t want a wimp, right? It is, after all, an intelligent animal and an outstanding watch dog.
The Pitbull is intimidating, has strong ownership instinct, is agile and powerful, is vicious with strangers, is active, courageous, faithful, obedient (if properly trained), tenacious, and can be affectionate towards the owners and family. It’s a loyal breed and when shown the right love and care, it’s an awesome and fun pet.
If you want protection, this is a great animal to work with to obtain your sense of security. Having a wide head, powerful jaws, a compact and stout build….the intimidating appearance is not misleading. Their suspicion of strangers is what helps them achieve excellence as watch dogs. Even an older pup, once accustomed to those who will be living in the home, will be protective... |
